Hydrochloride (a-man'ta-deen) is used in the treatment of Parkinson
disease, uncontrolled muscle movements and certain types of flu. It can also
be used in the treatment of cocaine addiction.
How does the drug work? -
Amantadine hcl is an antiparkinson and antiviral
agent. How drug works against the flu is not known. It may block
reproduction of the virus and decrease the ability of the virus to get into
the cells. How Amantadine Hydrochloride works against the Parkinson's disease is not known. It
may increase a certain chemical in the brain. The brand name

What are the Common Side Effects of
this Prescription Drug? - They include:
appetite loss, blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness,
drowsiness, dry mouth/nose, headaches, lightheadedness, nausea, strange
dreams, tiredness, and trouble sleeping.
Drug Interaction Issues - (1)
Thioridazine because tremors may be worsened in Parkinson patients; and
(2)
Anticholinergics, hydrochlorothiazide, quinidine, quinine, stimulants, or triamterene because they may increase the risk of drug's side effects.
Important Notes About Usage of this
Prescription: (1) Amantadime may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or
blurred vision. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or
certain medicines. Use Amantadeen with caution. Do not drive or perform
other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. (2)
Do not become overheated in hot weather or while you are being active;
heatstroke may occur. (3) Do not suddenly stop taking Amantadine HCL
without first checking with your doctor. Your dose may need to be lowered
slowly to avoid side effects. (4) Neuroleptic malignant syndrome is a
possibly fatal syndrome that can be caused by Generic Symmetral. Symptoms
may include fever; stiff muscles; confusion; abnormal thinking; fast or
irregular heartbeat; and sweating. Contact your doctor at once if you have
any of these symptoms. (5)

are pregnant or breast feeding should be discussed with your physician.
