(lov-vah-stat'in) is used to lower high cholesterol (LDL and VLDL
cholesterol). Also, it is used in certain patients to reduce the risk of
heart attack and chest pain caused by angina.

procedures to open blocked heart blood vessels.
Lovastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, also known as a "statin." It

Common Side Effects - This drug is
well tolerated. The main potential side affect is constipation. Less
than 1 out of 100 people will experience a severe allergic reactions to
this rx prescription (including rash; hives; itching; difficulty
breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or
tongue); chest pain; dark urine; muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness
(with or without fever or fatigue); pale stools; red, swollen,

Drug Interaction: There are certain drugs that cause negative side effects when taken with
Generic Lovastatin. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:
(1) Amiodarone, certain azole antifungals (such as Itraconazole &
Ketoconazole), Danazol, Diltiazem, Fibrates (i.e. Gemfibrozil & Clofibrate),
Fluconazole, HIV protease inhibitors, imatinib, immunosuppressants,
macrolide antibiotics (i.e Clarithromycin & Erythromycin), mibefradil,
nefazodone, niacin, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors ,
streptogramins, telithromycin, vasopressin receptor antagonists, verapamil,
or voriconazole because they may increase the risk of muscle or kidney
problems; (2) Bosentan, Carbamazepine, Rifampin, or St. John's Wort,
because they may decrease the meds effectiveness; and (3)
Anticoagulants, Cimetidine, Digoxin, bith control pills, Macrolide
Immunosuppressants (Tacrolimus), or Spironolactone, because the risk of
their side effects may be increased with the use of cheap Lovastatin.
Important Notes: (1) This
prescription may cause dizziness or blurred vision. These effects may be
worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Generic
Mevacor with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe
tasks until you know how you react to it. (2) Report any unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or
weakness to your doctor right away, especially if you also have a fever
or general body discomfort. (3) Do
not use Lovastatin if you are pregnant. It may cause harm to the fetus.
(4) Do not breast
feed while taking this drug without
consulting with your doctor.
